Peshawar Zalmi have roped in Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka in place of injured Sherfane Rutherford for the ongoing eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
During the players' retentions in November 2022, Peshawar retained Rutherford in the diamond category, along with pacer Wahab Riaz.
However, the West Indian all-rounder sustained an injury that has ruled him out of the tournament.
To make up for the injured player, the Yellow Storm have signed all-rounder Shanaka, who led Sri Lanka to win the Asia Cup 2022 after beating Pakistan in the finals.
Rutherford sustained an injury during his side Desert Vipers' play-off clash against Gulf Giants in the International League T20 (ILT20).
It is worth mentioning here that Shanaka scored 1328 runs and claimed 13 wickets in 85 T20Is for his national side.
Peshawar kicked off their PSL campaign with a victory over Karachi Kings, but in their second match on Friday, they suffered a massive 56-run loss against Multan Sultans at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Put to bat first, the home side posted a massive 211-run target before bowling out the Babar Azam-led side to 154 runs in 18.2 overs, thanks to Rilee Rossouw's blistering knock of 75 runs and Usama Mir and Ihsanullah, who claimed three wickets each.
Earlier in the first match, Khurram Shahzad defended 16 runs in the last over as Peshawar Zalmi beat Karachi Kings by two runs during their first clash of PSL 8 at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on Tuesday.
Zalmi will next lock horns with Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on Monday, February 20.
